Process: Concepts

A concept is the first representation of how the product might look and how the user might complete the most common tasks identified in the user scenarios. The concept deliverable should also include detailed IA work that supports the design.

The concept phase provides the first real opportunity for the HI Team, product marketing, and engineering to confirm that they have the same vision for the product. Concepts are especially effective ways of giving engineers the product details they need to determine what is and is not technically feasible in the HI. Product marketing can use concepts to confirm whether the product, as defined, will meet user needs. The HI Team can use approved concepts to proceed with planning for user testing.

Concepts often include wireframes or storyboards to show key steps in common user tasks. Final bitmap graphics and text are developed during the design phase.
