Background

Traverse Networks’ CallConnect product provides visual voicemail review and call management features for enterprise PBX systems. The CallConnect mobile handset application allows users to view corporate voicemail messages in an email-like inbox. Users can then select and listen to voicemail messages in any order, and even save or delete messages without having to listen to them first. The CallConnect mobile application also lets users transparently redirect incoming corporate calls to any other phone, filter calls on the basis of caller’s user-assigned VIP designations, and automatically manage calls based on schedule or location.

The project

I had to create custom human interface specifications for the standard CallConnect feature set for three different mobile platforms: J2ME, Palm OS, and BlackBerry. I attempted to keep the applications as similar to one another as possible to make corporate training and support as easy as possible while still taking full advantage of each platform’s strengths (and working around their weaknesses).

Each version of the CallConnect client opens to a main screen which shows the user their current messaging and call configuration status. Main screen status elements are also selectable, allowing the user to jump quickly to the feature they want to use. Tappling on New Voicemail, for example, takes the user to the Visual Voicemail inbox. Tapping any voicemail message causes that message to play.
