Background

As Director of Design for NetObjects I was responsible for the corporate web site, print materials and packaging. In 1998 NetObjects acquired a number of products and was prepared to release NetObjects TeamFusion, a server-based, multi-user version of NetObjects Fusion, its flagship web authoring application. A consistent packaging system was required to visually relate these different products both to NetObjects and to one another.

The project

I had three weeks to update the packaging for NetObjects Fusion (which had been shipping for over a year) and create packages for three new products. As Creative Director I managed two designers, wrote most of the copy, pushed concepts and designs through the necessary approvals, and directed the photo shoots.

The only way to complete the project on time was to follow a standard software packaging “system”—product name and image on the front, screen shot and copy on the back, system requirements on the spine. The packaging successfully introduced a new tone and style for all NetObjects print and online marketing materials.
